Barriers to the Sustainable Implementation of Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing: A Contextual-Based Interpretive Structural Model

The traditional production system is mainly concerned with economic growth. However, growing pollution and the rapid depletion of natural resources, there an urgent need to adopt environmentally conscious manufacturing (ECM) prioritize environment alongside society business. Therefore, it crucial identify barriers that prevent sustainable implementation ECM overcome them better. This research uses interpretive structural modeling comprehend contextual interrelationships between ECM. identified are categorized modeled based on their interdependence driving powers. findings show management’s lack understanding essential barrier leads a communication gap. Both lead barriers, such as less qualified workforce, high taxation, poor policy framing implementation, financial support, technological upgrades. Thereby, this adoption remanufacturing, higher costs products, in turn, overconsumption resources. Overcoming these will improve acceptance ECM, inadequate legislative framework, its implementation. resulting model provides deeper enables better design coping strategies toward more fullest potential.
